Promoting Responsible Antibiotic Use: World Antimicrobial Awareness Week at SHMC
November 27, 2025
In observance of World Antimicrobial Awareness Week, SH Medical Centre (SHMC) hosted a critical educational session on November 27. The programme was designed to address one of the most pressing global health threats: Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR).
Addressing the Global Challenge of Antimicrobial Resistance
The session focused on the urgent need for the prudent use of antibiotics in clinical settings. As drug-resistant infections become more common, the role of healthcare providers in “stewardship” has never been more vital.
The primary objectives of the session included:
-
Preventing Antibiotic Misuse: Strategies to ensure patients receive the right drug at the right dose.
-
Clinical Guidelines: Adhering to updated protocols for infection control.
-
Public Health Outcomes: Reducing the spread of resistant “superbugs” within the community.
Expert Guidance from Dr. Jisha Tu (COO)
The awareness session was led by Dr. Jisha Tu, Chief Operating Officer (COO) of SH Medical Centre. In an engaging and highly informative presentation, Dr. Jisha Tu emphasised that responsible prescribing is not just a clinical choice, but a collective responsibility.
By highlighting best practices and evidence-based clinical guidelines, she reinforced SHMC’s commitment to patient safety and the global fight against antimicrobial resistance.
Why AMR Awareness Matters for Patient Safety
Antimicrobial resistance occurs when bacteria, viruses, and fungi no longer respond to medicines, making infections harder to treat. Through ongoing staff education and awareness sessions, SH Medical Centre ensures that our medical team remains at the forefront of safe and effective antimicrobial practices.
